Gems Minerals Crystals and Ores
Published in Paperback by Golden Pr (March, 1977)
Author: Richard M. Pearl
Average review score:

Excellent reference book
I got this book a few years ago at a used book store and I still consider it my best reference book for minerals. I have a B.S. degree in Geoscience and used the book for a mineralogy course I was taking, many of the Geology students were impressed with the content of the book.

I especially like the inclusion of the Crystalography section. The book was orginally published in 1964, then again in 1967, so its pre-moonlanding, but does include a small section on Meteorites.

Mine is old and needs to be rebound, which I plan to do since the book is no longer published. Find this book!

Gifts of Love
Crystal Stovall writes this book wonderfully, showing how God sometimes has bigger plans for us than we expect.
In Gifts of Love Jessica Claybrook has always prayed and hoped for one thing, but she never thought she'd get it. Still she secretly lived with her pain always willing to help others. When a tornado strikes, she runs into single dad, David Akers, and ends up helping him save his daughter. As time goes by she helps David regain his trust in God, find himself again, and she teaches him how to love. In return David proves to Jessie that her dreams can come true too.
God has more love to offer than we know.
"Send out your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will get it back." Ecclesiastes 11:1

From the back...
Jessica Reynolds's music is riding at the top of the charts and everyone is happy about her success. Except Sheriff Wayne Jackson. He's concerned about overzealous fans coming on to Jessie. Is he simply doing his job or does he know something he's not telling?

My opinion...
Wayne used to play for the NFL and later he worked as a cop in Las Vegas. Wayne knows what it is like to travel on the road and have lots of eager fans. Wayne wants nothing to do with that lifestyle ever again. Jessica represents everything in a woman that Wayne tries to avoid. However, it becomes impossible for him to ignore his feelings for Amanda. Yet Wayne is dealing with another problem that could affect the whole town. Zack who is the owner of the local honky-tonk bar is hanging around big time gamblers. Wayne's ex-wife had a gambling addiction, so Wayne hates gambling more than most. When Jessica has trouble with Zack, it is Wayne who rides to the rescue. Jessica and Wayne get close, but his hang-ups about her profession could be the end of their relationship. I really like this book and the characters of Wayne and Jessica. This was a great addition to the Crystal Creek series.

One Of The Best Resources I Have Used
Guys is an excellent resource for small group ministry. The activities included in each session get my guys small group thinking and talking. Blending each lesson with solid Bible teaching, relevent social comparison and movie clips, Guys becomes a must have resource. I have found it to be one of the most effective tools I have used in my 13 years in Youth Ministry. Dealing with issues like "How To Treat A Women", "purity" and "friendships", this book teaches young men what they need to know to be Godly men in this world.

...any library in the materials science or chemical engineering departments of universities should carry these volumes.... I would recommend it to academics in the crystal growth field who want to have a complete reference work they can use to ensure their students are well grounded in the fundamentals and also to industrial crystal-growers who now and then need to understand why it is that what they do actually works.

The Healing Power of Gemstones: In Tantra, Ayurveda, & Astrology
Published in Paperback by Inner Traditions Intl Ltd (October, 1996)
Authors: Harish Johari and Harish Dohari
Average review score:

A gem of a book!
This is a guide to optimising physical and psychological well-being through the use of gemstones, with reference to the disciplines of Tantra an Ayurveda. The author discusses how Indian astrologers, Ayurvedic healers and Tantric alchemists use gems in their practices and provides clear instructions for the creation of gemstone talismans and the performanc of rituals involving gems to bring about desired effects. The book serves as both a practical guide to the subtle nature of gemstones and as an overview of their use through the ages. The introduction looks at gemstones and the human race and gems and astrology, while Part 2 deals with particular stones and their ruling planets: ruby, pearl, coral, emerald, yellow sapphire, diamond, blue sapphire, hessonite and cat's eye. There is also a chapter on semi-precious stones and gems of medicinal value plus one devoted to healing with gemstones. It was interesting to learn that gems work with both Physicochemical and Pranic energy, whether the are worn as jewelry or taken orally in the form of pastes or oxides. Beautiful illustrations, Sanskrit script and figures enliven the text and there are many tables and astrological charts.

High Resolution X-Ray Diffractometry Topography

A review
This is a new generation book. Most books available in the field cover the whole history of the X-ray scattering theories and applications. Then, specific applications that are very important in our days for industries and scientific researches are not properly treated. This book does begin where other related books have finished. The issues covered are not found anywhere else together, in a same volume, as they are here. It is fundamental to the new era of materials characterization.
